A path to re-establish place and belonging
through shared goals and home ownership.
Establishment of a physical place that feels like home and helps provide a sense of belonging is essential to the process of survival and recovery from forced displacement. Fort Morgan is a rural community that includes many ethnicities and a sizable population of people who are currently or have previously been asylum seekers and resettled refugees. It is also a place where housing has been identified as a primary and urgent need.
The Housing Initiative is designed to be a 24-month residential program for refugees, as well as other community members, committed to working towards home ownership. Participation in the initiative provides a family with a safe and stable living environment that creates space for recovery and integration in the context of intentional community.
Built into the program is a mechanism for participants to have money saved that will help meet those home ownership / education goals. Programming elements include tutoring, English lessons, education around home ownership and property care, life plan consultation, and a variety of community activities.
Finding your place is just a click away.
